The altcoin market just absorbed roughly $215 billion in fresh capital over a 72-hour stretch, a move that has crypto traders dusting off the word “altseason” for the first time in months. CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost flagged the data, showing the total altcoin market capitalization (measured by Total2, which excludes Bitcoin) jumped more than 24% between August 19 and August 22. That was enough to push the combined value of non-Bitcoin crypto assets back above the $1 trillion mark, a level that had felt increasingly distant during a prolonged stretch of underperformance. What triggered the surge The catalyst appears to trace directly to August 19, when President Donald Trump announced plans for the US government to purchase Bitcoin on a large scale. Trump also called for Congress to advance the CLARITY Act, a piece of legislation aimed at establishing clearer regulatory frameworks for digital assets.
