Coinbase flipped the switch on full trading for BLUECHIP-USD on September 16, giving users access to market, limit, and stop orders across its web platform and mobile app. The token, a Base-chain memecoin that bills itself as “the bluechip of all memecoins,” had previously lived almost entirely on decentralized exchanges. How the rollout worked The exchange ran BLUECHIP through a structured three-stage process that started with an auction mode lasting at least 10 minutes without any trade matches. From there, the token moved into a limit-only phase, where users could place limit orders but not market orders. This intermediate step lets the order book fill up with resting bids and asks before market orders can sweep through thin liquidity and cause wild price swings. Only after that buffer period did Coinbase transition BLUECHIP-USD to full trading status, unlocking the complete suite of order types. The exchange has used this identical playbook for other lower-market-cap tokens like GRASS-USD and GROVE-USD.
