Chelsea Football Club has completed the signing of 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion on a two-year deal running through June 2028. The transfer, confirmed around August 1, 2026, brings a veteran England international to a club that has become one of the most aggressive spenders in European football.
The deal itself
Welbeck arrives at Stamford Bridge after a productive spell at Brighton, where he scored 14 goals in 40 appearances during the 2025-26 season.
The transfer fee remains undisclosed. He’ll work under manager Xabi Alonso and is expected to join the squad during Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
Welbeck has scored five Premier League away goals at Stamford Bridge, more than at any other opponent’s ground. The 42-cap England international brings experience and versatility to a Chelsea attack that has cycled through expensive young talent at a dizzying pace.
