Chelsea enquires about Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso as Cucurella replacement hunt begins

2 hours ago 4

Chelsea have made an enquiry to Juventus about defender Andrea Cambiaso, signaling the opening move in what could become a drawn-out summer pursuit for one of Serie A’s most versatile full-backs.

The approach comes as Chelsea look to fill the void left by Marc Cucurella, who is reportedly heading to Real Madrid.

What Chelsea are chasing

Cambiaso can operate on both flanks, offering tactical flexibility that few defenders in European football can match.

He joined Juventus from Genoa back in July 2022 for a relatively modest fee of around €15.5 million. Juventus reportedly value him somewhere between €40 million and €50 million, though some speculation on social media has pushed that figure as high as €75 million.

Cambiaso’s contract runs all the way through June 2029, which gives the Italian club enormous leverage in any negotiation.

At this stage, the contact between Chelsea and Juventus is exploratory. Formal negotiations have not started.

The competition is fierce

Chelsea are far from alone in their admiration. Barcelona, Inter, and Atletico Madrid are all monitoring Cambiaso’s situation.

Reports indicate that as of mid-June, Cambiaso’s preferred destination is Barcelona.

What this means for Chelsea’s summer plans

Chelsea paying somewhere in the range of €40 million to €50 million for a player with nearly three years left on his deal at a selling club with no financial distress would represent fair market value. But if Barcelona or another suitor drives the bidding toward that speculated €75 million ceiling, Chelsea would need to decide how badly they want this particular target versus alternatives who might offer similar versatility at a lower cost.
