ByteDance attracts over $30B in orders for jumbo syndicated loan

ByteDance just pulled off something that would make most CFOs weep with joy: the company sought $20 billion in offshore syndicated financing and got $30 billion in orders instead. That level of oversubscription, roughly 1.5x the ask, sends a pretty clear signal about how lenders feel about the TikTok parent company’s creditworthiness. The loan represents ByteDance’s largest-ever syndicated facility, structured with a three-year tenor that can be extended to five years. From $1.3B to $20B in six years ByteDance’s relationship with the syndicated loan market has been a masterclass in scaling up. The company made its debut in this space back in 2019 with a relatively modest facility of approximately $1.335 billion. Each subsequent round has grown larger. In 2024, ByteDance finalized a $10.8 billion loan, which itself came in well above its initial target. Now, less than two years later, the company is nearly doubling that figure.
