Europe wants its own AI infrastructure. Somebody has to bolt it together, and in France that job increasingly falls to Bull SAS. On October 1, 2026, the state-owned supercomputer maker inaugurated an expanded factory in Angers. The upgrade doubles monthly production capacity from 6 racks to 12. That makes it one of the clearest physical signs yet that the continent’s push for computing sovereignty is moving beyond policy papers. Inside the Angers expansion The expansion cost €80 million. It is a direct response to rising European demand for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) systems. There may be more headroom still. The factory has the potential to scale to 24 racks per month by 2027, though that remains a possibility rather than a commitment. The extra floor space has a practical payoff. Bull can now build major systems side by side instead of queuing them one after another. Two flagship projects are currently moving through the plant in parallel. The first is Alice Recoque, a 94-rack supercomputer. The second is LUMI-AI, a system destined for Finland and valued at €388 million. LUMI-AI is the largest contract in Bull’s history. It also marks the sixth AI Factory under the E...
