Brookfield sees 6.5 GW of AI data center capacity in India, dwarfing current infrastructure

India currently has about 1.5 GW of data center capacity. Brookfield Asset Management thinks that number is about to grow by more than four times, projecting 6.5 GW of AI-focused data center capacity coming online in the country. The projection isn’t just aspirational hand-waving. Brookfield has been backing it up with capital, most notably through an $11 billion joint venture called Digital Connexion, a partnership with Reliance Industries and Digital Realty. That venture alone is targeting a 1 GW AI-native data center campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with a 2030 completion target.
