The person running Washington’s most prominent crypto trade group is heading for the exit, and the timing is hard to ignore. Summer Mersinger will step down as CEO of the Blockchain Association on October 16, 2026, just weeks after the Senate blocked one of the industry’s most consequential legislative bets. Mersinger will stay on as an advisor through the end of the year. Kristin Smith, the association’s founding member and current board president, takes over as interim CEO on October 17, 2026, while simultaneously holding her position leading the Solana Policy Institute. A vote that changed the room temperature The backdrop here matters. On September 15, 2026, the Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in a 49-50 vote. That bill was designed to give the industry the regulatory framework it has been lobbying for across multiple congressional sessions.
