Big Tech drives surge in US corporate bond sales amid AI investments

Six of the biggest names in tech have collectively issued roughly $244 billion in bonds globally through mid-July 2026. To put the acceleration in perspective, five major AI hyperscalers issued $121 billion in US corporate bonds across all of 2025. That already vastly exceeded the $28 billion annual average they posted between 2020 and 2024. Now, barely halfway through 2026, six firms have more than doubled that number. Who is selling, and how much Nvidia executed a $25 billion bond sale in June 2026, one of the largest single corporate debt offerings in recent memory. Amazon followed with a multi-tranche offering targeting at least $25 billion in July 2026. The roster of hyperscalers driving this trend includes Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, and Nvidia. Each is spending aggressively on data centers, custom AI chips, and the power infrastructure required to run models that are increasingly expensive to train and operate. According to Bank of America, the non-dollar share of hyperscaler bond issuance doubled to 30% by 2026.
