Berkshire Hathaway more than tripled its stake in Alphabet during the first quarter of 2026, turning what was a modest position into one of the conglomerate’s largest holdings. The move is among the most aggressive portfolio shifts in Berkshire’s recent history, and it happened under the watch of a new boss. Greg Abel, who took over as CEO from Warren Buffett at the start of the year, appears to be running a tighter ship. Berkshire’s equity portfolio shrank from roughly 40 positions to just 26, while the company simultaneously poured billions into Google’s parent company, jumped back into airlines, and struck a deal to buy a homebuilder. The Alphabet bet gets louder Berkshire’s 13F filing for Q1 2026 revealed the company increased its Alphabet holdings to approximately 58 million shares. That stake was valued between $16.6 billion and $17 billion as of March 31. In June 2026, Berkshire committed an additional $10 billion to Alphabet, pushing its total investment in the tech giant to roughly $31.8 billion.
