Barcelona contacts Manchester City over €60M move for Vitor Reis

1 hour ago 2

Barcelona has reached out to Manchester City about signing Vitor Reis, the 20-year-old Brazilian defender who has spent the current season on loan at Girona. The Catalan club values the centre-back at approximately €60 million, a figure that would represent a significant markup on what City originally paid for him.

Manchester City signed Reis from Palmeiras in January 2025 for £29.6 million. Barcelona is willing to pay roughly double what City invested just 18 months ago.

The deal structure and complications

Rather than pursuing a straight permanent transfer, Barcelona is reportedly exploring a loan with an option to buy.

Both sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick have been impressed by Reis’s performances at Girona this season.

Reis himself reportedly wants to return to Manchester City for more regular playing time after his development season in Spain.

Why Barcelona wants Reis

Born on January 12, 2006, Reis is still just 20 years old.

The move fits into a broader pattern under Flick’s management. Barcelona has been actively restructuring its squad, and strengthening the defensive line has been a clear priority.

Reis has had the benefit of an entire season adapting to Spanish football at Girona. He already knows the league, the culture, and the style of play.

What this means for all parties involved

Manchester City paid £29.6 million for Reis and could now command €60 million or more if they decide to sell.

For Barcelona, the loan-with-option structure makes strategic sense. Committing €60 million outright for a player who hasn’t yet proven himself at the absolute top tier carries risk. A loan arrangement lets them evaluate Reis in their own system before pulling the trigger on a permanent deal.

There’s also the Girona factor to consider. The club, which is owned by the City Football Group, has been developing Reis all season.
