Anthropic’s IPO fuels political donor network for AI safety

Anthropic hasn’t even gone public yet, and it’s already reshaping how Silicon Valley money flows into politics. The AI safety company, which confidentially filed its draft S-1 with the SEC on June 1, is building something unusual alongside its IPO paperwork: a political infrastructure designed to push AI safety regulation through Washington during the 2026 midterm cycle. The company contributed $20 million to Public First Action in February 2026, a political advocacy group backing candidates who support AI safety frameworks. Its employees, meanwhile, have collectively donated over $880,000 across 302 individual contributions through the first quarter of this year alone.
