Anthropic opens 10,000 Claude subscription slots for scientists

Anthropic just made its biggest play yet for the lab coat crowd. The company announced on August 27 that it’s releasing 10,000 Claude subscription seats specifically for scientists, offering either free standard access or premium seats at $15 per month for a full year. The catch, if you can call it that: you need to be a principal investigator at an accredited institution working in natural sciences, math, computer science, or engineering. What the Claude Team plan actually includes The new Claude Team plan is structured in two tiers. Standard seats come at no cost, while premium seats run $15 monthly, a fraction of what commercial users typically pay for comparable AI access. Both tiers last for one year. This isn’t Anthropic’s first move into the research space. The company launched Claude Science on June 30, a dedicated AI workbench that bundles tools for hypothesis generation, data analysis, and other research workflows. Claude Science was initially tilted toward biology, but the platform now spans multiple scientific disciplines.
