AMD CEO Lisa Su says the chipmaker will invest tens of billions of dollars in the global supply chain. That is a significant step up from the commitment AMD made only a few months earlier. What Lisa Su announced in Taiwan Su laid out the plan during a visit to Taiwan on October 6, 2026. The headline change: AMD intends to push its investment in the island’s semiconductor supply chain beyond the figure it committed in May 2026. That May pledge was more than $10 billion. The new language, tens of billions across the global supply chain, suggests the original number is starting to look like a down payment. According to Su, demand driven by artificial intelligence has already surpassed the supply increases AMD lined up for 2026. She expects that demand to stay exceptionally high in the years ahead. The spending will target three areas: Wafer capacity, the raw silicon output that every chip starts from Advanced packaging, the step that assembles and connects chip components into a finished product Supporting infrastructure, including substrates, the base layers that chips are mounted on More CPUs and GPUs in 2027 Su also said AMD plans to substantially increase its supply of central pro...
