AFC Bournemouth extends Ryan Christie’s contract until June 2029

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie has signed a three-year contract extension that keeps him at the Vitality Stadium until June 2029, locking down one of the club’s most consistent performers for the foreseeable future.

The deal represents a significant commitment from both sides. Christie, who initially joined Bournemouth from Celtic in August 2021, had previously signed a four-year contract in November 2023 that was set to run until summer 2027. This new extension adds two more years to that arrangement.

Why this matters for Bournemouth

Christie has established himself as a key figure in Bournemouth’s midfield, earning recognition from the club’s own fanbase when he won supporter awards in May 2025 for his performances during the 2024/25 season.

Aston Villa expressed interest in acquiring Christie in April 2026, sensing an opportunity as his previous contract situation left room for negotiation. The extension effectively slams that door shut, at least for now.

Christie’s journey on the south coast

Christie’s path to becoming a Bournemouth mainstay wasn’t the most obvious one. The Scottish international arrived from Celtic nearly five years ago and had to prove himself in what was then a Championship side working its way back to the top flight.

The November 2023 contract was the first major reward for that consistency. This extension is the second.

Spotrac had listed Christie’s annual salary at $2.6M under his previous deal. Terms of the new extension have not been publicly disclosed.

What this means for the club’s trajectory

With Villa circling earlier this year, Bournemouth could have entertained a sale and pocketed a transfer fee. Instead, they chose continuity.

A contract running to 2029 means any club interested in Christie will need to pay a premium that Bournemouth, not the player’s expiring deal, dictates.
