AC Milan bids over €25M for Lazio defender Mario Gila as Serie A transfer battle heats up

1 hour ago 1

AC Milan is pushing hard to land Lazio defender Mario Gila, reportedly offering a fee north of €25 million that includes performance-related bonuses. The move signals a serious intent from the Rossoneri to shore up their backline ahead of the upcoming Serie A campaign, and it puts them at the front of a crowded pack of Italian clubs chasing the same player.

Gila has just one year left on his Lazio contract and has turned down renewal talks. Milan appears eager to capitalize before the situation turns into a full-blown auction.

The money and the competition

Milan’s proposed deal reportedly values Gila at over €25 million when bonuses are factored in. The personal terms on offer are said to be around €5 million per year.

Napoli is reportedly weighing a bid in the €15 to €18 million range, while Atalanta’s potential offer sits somewhere between €20 and €25 million. Milan’s willingness to go above €25 million puts them comfortably at the top of the bidding hierarchy.

The club made direct contact with Gila’s agent, Alejandro Camano, on July 2, 2026, reigniting discussions that had been simmering since earlier in the year. Reports from spring 2026 described a transfer agreement as “almost done” before things apparently stalled.

Sporting director Igli Tare and manager Massimiliano Allegri are both reportedly on board with the signing.

The Real Madrid complication

Real Madrid holds a 50% sell-on clause from when Gila originally left the Spanish capital for Lazio. That means if Lazio sells Gila for, say, €25 million, roughly €12.5 million would flow back to the Bernabeu.

For Lazio, that clause means their effective proceeds from any sale are cut in half, which could push them to demand a higher headline fee to make the deal worthwhile on their end.

Why this matters for Milan’s season

The €5 million annual salary being discussed would make Gila one of Milan’s better-compensated defenders. This isn’t a depth signing — this is a player Milan expects to start.

The competition from Napoli and Atalanta shouldn’t be dismissed. Napoli’s lower bid range of €15 to €18 million might appeal to Lazio if personal terms or other deal structures are more favorable. Atalanta’s bid is estimated between €20 and €25 million. Milan’s financial muscle and reported willingness to outbid both rivals puts them in the driver’s seat.
